FAQ

How many days do you need in Riviera Maya?

Three to five days is enough for Playa del Carmen, ruins, and cenotes, while seven to ten days lets you add Akumal, Bacalar, Sian Kaan, or a slower coast day.

Is it better to start in Playa del Carmen or Cancún?

Playa del Carmen is easier for Riviera Maya state, food, culture, Coba, and Gulf coast day trips. Cancún works well if you are flying into the Caribbean side and move quickly toward Akumal.

Can you travel Riviera Maya without a rental car?

Yes, especially if you keep bases simple in Playa del Carmen and Akumal. Rural cenotes, ruins combinations, and nature stops are easier with a car, driver, or guided tour.

What is the best first-time Riviera Maya itinerary?

A practical first route is Playa del Carmen, Tulum ruins, cenotes, Akumal, and Puerto Morelos, with Sian Kaan or Bacalar added if you have extra days.
